PUBLIC MEETING
Our last chance to object to:
Planning Application to build 800 houses and a link road in Shottery
A Planning Application by the developers Bloor and Hallam is soon to be considered by the District Council’s Planning Committee, possibly before Christmas.
Many objections were raised to this application when it was submitted a year ago. Now the developers believe they have answered these objections and should be allowed to proceed.
In reality nothing has changed. If built, this development would:
· Cause increased risk of flooding to existing homes
· Be likely to lead to the closure of Cottage Lane to traffic
· Include the construction of a so-called ‘Relief Road’ resulting in:
· Increase in traffic on the Evesham Road, Alcester Road, the A46 and in parts of the town centre
· Noise and pollution affecting Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the surrounding area
· Take 10 years to build, with no "Relief Road" during that time and extensive disruption and noise
· Result in the destruction of countryside and open up the likelihood of further building across Bordon Hill on land owned by the developers

Shottery, the hamlet to the west of Stratford-upon-Avon, is famed for it's rural appeal. Anne Hathaway's cottage is probably one of the iconic buildings of rural England. This IS ‘Ye Olde England’ and in the context of literary history it is unique in the world.
Possibly not for much longer.
In what appears to me to be an act of unbelievable vandalism a housing developer has put in a planning application for 800 houses for the open land in this area. That is bad enough, but the worst part, and in my opinion equal to knocking down Stonehenge, using the stone as hardcore and building homes on an estate called ‘Henge View’ is that they also plan to put a relief road within a few hundred yards of the cottage.
Stratford-upon-Avon has been destroyed by new house building as it is a ‘nice’ address and thousands of new homes have been erected in the last ten years.
Shottery Hamlet is about to get the same treatment.

The protest meeting outside Anne Hathaway's Cottage

This is a report on our protest
RASE is determined to defend Shottery from this threat. We will need to engage the services of specialists in areas such as transport and ecology, as well as obtaining planning and legal advice. This will be very costly and we URGENTLY need financial contributions from residents to fund the campaign. Every pound helps!
Please send donations, payable to “RASE (Shottery) Ltd”, to: The Treasurer, RASE, 8 Gainsborough Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 9FA
